Overseas GCSE
Introduction
The core, compulsory subjects taken by most overseas students are:
Mathematics
English as a Second Language [ESL]
Science
Studying these subjects enables most students to collect a total of FOUR GCSE's, since Science usually leads to a ‘dual’ award of two GCSE's. In addition, most students will take a further four subjects chosen from the following list of options
Additional ESL
Art & Design
Design & Technology: Resistant Materials
Design & Technology: Graphics Products
Drama
French
Geography
German
History
Music
PE [Sports Science]
Religious Studies
Spanish
Most students will take a total of eight GCSE courses, which along with a further GCSE in their First Language, will give them a total of nine GCSE's. Details of all these subjects are included in the online booklet.
Although the majority of our students take History or Geography, or both, we recognise that in some cases it may be more appropriate for students to make other choices. Similarly, while as a general rule we encourage students to choose at least one creative subject (Art, Design, Drama, or Music), there will be circumstances in which it would be wrong to make this a requirement. As a result we are always keen to consider each case on its merits.
Although we will try our best to cater for all possible combinations of subjects, unfortunately the timetable is not infinitely flexible.
